In frost and snow, knotweed contractors go…

The recent weather has enabled us to make a good start on the winter brush cuts. This work is to enable us to carry out herbicide applications later in the year, without wasting most of the herbicide on the dead (previous years) stems. If we were to treat stands without brush cutting, the efficacy of the herbicide application would drop accordingly. We also take advantage of the brush cut to apply a granular nitrogen based fertiliser (!) to the knotweed. This promotes green sappy growth, which serves two purposes:

1) The sappy green growth is more responsive to herbicide application.
2) It reduces the possibility of dormancy in the knotweed.

This is however not all what we have been doing; we have also been cultivating stockpiles of knotweed infested soils and carrying out enabling works. Our members of staff have been on site from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to St. Austell in Cornwall, from Cumbria to Folkestone in Kent. We’ve braved the snows in the Welsh valleys and the icy M25.

As a national contractor, we’re proud to say its business as normal for Wreford!
